Playing Catch Up

How is it already June 10?

Don't misunderstand: I thought that May was THE LONGEST MONTH I'VE YET EXPERIENCED ON THIS PLANET, but somehow, once it was over, June exploded all over everything.

The passionfruit vine in my backyard is literally heaving with fruit. The hibiscus shrub is showing off with dozens of hot pink blossoms as big as my face. The Geminis I know are all having birthdays. It's a riot of color and sunshine and energy and butterflies and hummingbirds and I don't want it to end.

Slow down, June!

The Podcast

Episode 5 of Visions for a Radically Different World dropped on Monday and that means that there is only one more interview I have scheduled to complete the conversations about basic human needs. If you haven't heard them all (and you are feeling like maybe you've lost the thread and "what the heck does any of this have to do with the economy?" I'm sure you're not alone, but I'm hopeful that when folks listen they will begin to understand that the economy as we know it (which is pretty much synonymous with Capitalism - ew) is completely made up while things like needing compassion, care, opportunities to grow and learn, feeling valued and having agency AREN'T. So, now what is important, huh?

Anyway, all of this is to say that the episodes are there for you to listen to whenever you have a chance and so is my Substack. The goal with the Substack was to encourage folks to weigh in on what they've heard. If you're a passive podcast listener, cool. But if you have feeeeeelings about some of what we've talked about and you want to share them, I would love to hear them and I'd love it even more of other people read them and an exchange begins.

Because if we don't start talking about all of this stuff with one another, we won't be able to change any of it and, well, ... see the importance of having agency and a voice....

The episodes in order can be found here*:

Intro

Basic Needs

Belonging & Being Valued

Creation & Rest

Growth & Development

Care & Affection

*I realize that I mis-numbered them and I need to go back and fix it, but first I need to make sure that it won't mess something up out there in the computer-o-sphereverse and make things worse, so trust me that while the numbers are wrong, the episodes appear in order wherever you listen to your podcasts.

Other Things

I know folks are overwhelmed and busy and feeling all the things right now, and because of my relentless desire to create community and find ways for us to be together and play, rest, heal, and feel, I've got some offerings to share. I am, increasingly, wanting to get OFF of social media as much as possible, so checking out the website or my Substack (I know, that counts as social media and it is more and more filled with ads and sponsored posts rather than amazing creations from people I love) or simply emailing me are great ways to find out what's going on.

Fridays I Just Wanna Write! If you have an hour on Fridays from 12-1PST and you want to hop online with some other folks to get writing prompts and just noodle around with words, respond to this newsletter or email me and I'll send you the Zoom link. No need to sign up for every single week - just drop in when you can and pay as you go. Suggested cost $5-$10/hour

COMING SOON: Healing Circles (and as I type that name out, it feels pretentious and weird and new-agey and because I struggle with brevity and naming things, I'm going to just shake it off and go with it). These are designed to be a small cohort of folks who are interested in doing some communal grief work, a little writing, some ritual (yep, you can burn or break something and howl at the moon), and somatic experiencing. I recently completed a somatic experiencing course with Linda Thai and I am amazed at how years and years of therapy couldn't even touch some of the stored trauma in my body. Cohorts will be capped at 8 people and will be 90 minutes once a week for 6 weeks. Respond to this newsletter or email me and let me know if you're interested.

As always, I want to know what you're thinking about. Let me know if you have questions for me or just need me to know something. I'm here.

Happy Spring! Podcast, Workshop Dates, and a Request Actually, I think I'll work backwards, if that's ok A Request If you've been following me for any time at all, you will probably remember that I've been supporting a Palestinian family since October of 2023. I first heard about Ahmed and his family from my friend Rosie who was trying to help him and his child be medically evacuated from Gaza. Their home was bombed on or around October 10 and Shawqi was hit in the head by a piece of concrete...

Happy 2026! Visions for a Radically Different World is here! I am so excited for this podcast series and I hope you are, too. The first episode is a 30-minute introduction to the idea and you can listen here (or on Spotify or Apple, but I have issues with Spotify, so in case you do, too, there are options). There will be new episodes on the fourth Tuesday of every month and I really want to hear from folks with their ideas for other conversations as well as comments on the episodes. I've set...
